Özet

This study aimed to investigate social skills in adolescents with respect to some variables including age, gender, school type, grade and number of siblings. The study population comprised adolescents attending the ninth, tenth and eleventh grades of middle schools, and vocational training centers affiliated to the Directorate of National Education in Çankırı. 216 (53.2%) female and 190 (46.8%) male adolescents who agreed to participate voluntarily were included into the study sample. The study data were gathered with the “Demographic Information Form” and the “Social Skills Inventory.” Kolmogorov-Smirnov, One Way Anova, t and Scheffe tests were performed in data analysis. The study results revealed that 17 year-olds, female adolescents, those who attended Anatolian high schools and 11th grade, school club members and those who wanted to attend university had high emotional sensitivity; 16 and 17 year-olds, female adolescents, those who attended Anatolian high schools and 10th-11th grades, those who had four siblings and those who wanted to attend university had high social sensitivity; male adolescents had high emotional control; 16 year-olds, female adolescents and those who attended Anatolian high schools had high social control; and adolescents who attended Anatolian high schools, those who had four siblings and school club members had high social expressivity (p<0.05).
