Abstract


Investigation of Milk and Dairy Products Consumption of Adolescents

In this study, it was aimed to examine the consumption of milk and milk products of adolescent students. The sample of the study consisted of 300 students (47.7% female, 52.3% male; mean age: 12.03±1.2 years) attending 100th Year Ahmet Haşhaş Secondary School in Selçuklu District of Konya Province. Research. Data were collected by a questionnaire form. Body mass index (BMI) was determined by calculating the body weight and height values of the students and BMI was grouped according to the reference values. In order to evaluate the frequency of food consumption, percentage, consumption scores were calculated by scoring with T=5T1+4T2+3T3+2T4+1T5 formula. Statistical analysis of the data was done by using SPSS 18.0 program. According to the results of the study; 1.3% of students had milk allergy; 83.0% of them liked to drink milk. Students who did not like milk stated that they did not like the taste of milk as the first reason (46.2%). 54% of the students said that they consume milk because they were nutritious and healthy. the highest proportion of milk consumed in the evening (51.4%); 51.0% consumed milk as warm / hot, 64.0% prefered to consume milk as a mixture. 76.3% of the students stated that they consumed their packaged products (UHT or daily milk). When the consumption frequency of dairy products is examined; yoghurts (69.7%), white cheese (67.0%), milk (40.3%) and ayran (33.3%) were found to be consumed every day, at the highest rate.respectively. The least consumed dairy products are kefir and curd cheese, respectively. As a result; it was revealed that students participating in the research should be informed about consumption and preference of milk and dairy products.
