The purpose of this study was to determine university students’ attitudes towards environmental problems, and the influence of socio-demographic characteristics on it. This descriptive study was carried out with 240 university students attending to the Faculty of Health Science in Firat University during 15-26 February 2016. Data were collected with the questionnaire method. Students’ attitudes towards environmental problems determined with using ‘Environmental Attitude Scales’ (EAS). The questionnaire was of 5-Likert scale type and comprised 21 items. Data were analyzed by using chi-square, variance analysis and t test. The level of significance was accepted as <0.05. The mean age of 240 students was 21.4±2.01 (18-32) years and 76.3% (n=183) were women, 23.7% (n=57) were men. 68.3% (n=164) of them were in Nursing department and 37.1% (n=89) were living in dormitory. Students' Environmental Attitude Scale (EAS) mean score was 82.01±8.05. When some descriptive characteristics of the students were compared with the EAS scores; a significant correlation was found between the scores and gender, departments, mother’s educational level and living place (p<0,05). A significant correlation was not found between the scores and age, class, father’s educational level, family type, and economic status (p>0,05). According to the results of this study, students’ attitude toward environmental problems differs regarding to gender, departments, mother’s educational level and living place.
