Abstract


Midwives' Application Status and Affecting Factors of Nonpharmacological Pain Control Method in Labor

The study was carried out as a descriptive study in order to determine midwives’ application status and affecting factors of nonpharmacological pain control method in labor . The sample of the study consisted of 252 midwives who work in hospitals in Kayseri and agree to participate to the study. After Informed Consent Form was applied, data were collected by using Questionnaire Form and analyzed by using SPSS 14.0 program. Descriptive and comparative statistical analyzes were used to analyze the data. 48% percentage of midwives, received information about nonpharmacological pain control methods, 86.7% of the midwives received this information during basic vocational training, 25.0% of them had their own research, 4.7% of them had in-service training. According to the educational status of the midwives, the difference between the information about nonpharmacological pain control methods was statistically significant (x2 = 44,127, p <0,05). The difference between the learning status of the midwives and their knowledge of nonpharmacological pain control methods was statistically significant (x2 = 57,184, p <0,05). According to the educational status of the midwives, the difference between the cases of nonpharmacological pain control methods was statistically significant (x2 = 42,900, p <0.05). As a result of the data obtained from the study, it was determined that midwives work in the hospital had information and application deficiencies related to nonpharmacological pain control methods. Mothers who have positive experiences in the delivery of birth and control of the birth pain, the delivery of a comfortable birth, training of midwives with sufficient knowledge and equipment, training in midwifery to eliminate the deficiencies of knowledge and practice, and the training of non-pharmacological pain control methods on midwives and course schedules are recommended.
