Abstract


The Relationship Some Socio-Demographic Characteristics and Empathy Level with Gender Perception in Faculty of Sports Sciences Students

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship some socio-demographic characteristics and empathy level with gender perception in faculty of sports sciences students. The descriptive study was conducted with 305 students who were study at Balıkesir University Faculty of Sport Sciences between October and November 2020, accepted to participate in the study and completed the questionnaire. The data were collected by online questionnaire which included Personal Information Form, Empathy Level Scale and Perception of Gender Scale. In the statistical analysis, frequency, percentage, mean, standart deviation, Student’s t test, Mann Whitney U test, ANOVA test, Kruskal Wallis H test and multivariate linear regression analysis were used and significance level was p <0.05. The mean score of the students obtained from the Perception of Gender Scale was 85.07±16.08. In the multivariate linear regression analysis in which sociodemographic characteristics and empathy level were included in the model, it was found that the increase in female sex and empathy level was associated with positive gender perception. In this study, it was determined that women have a more positive gender perception than men and as the empathy level increases, the positive gender perception also increases. Courses can be planned to increase the level of empathy and positive gender perception in students and courses that include these topics can be added to the curriculum.
